Favorite Activities: Skiing and spending time in the mountains, travelling, listening to podcasts about purpose and personal finance, writing, long walks with my dog, and a carefully crafted pour over to start my day.
A Deeply Personal Road to Launch
Starting a business was always something I wanted to do, but for much of my career, it felt more like a dream than a real possibility. Sure, part of the hold up was financial, but I also had deeply rooted fears about striking out on my own, failing, and possibly jeopardizing other financial goals. For a while, it felt easier to work in a relatively stable career earning a good paycheck and I figured I could always circle back around to the business when I felt like I had more stability in my life.
In the fall of 2024, I completed George Kinder’s EVOKE training. The training is designed to help you figure out what is most important in your life and gives you permission to dream about what a fulfilled life could look like. That week reignited the fire in me, and for the first time, I started to feel like I could actually launch a business and run it the way I wanted.
In 2025, my dad also passed away unexpectedly. He was barely three years into his own retirement. Just when I started to think again that I couldn’t launch, my dad’s passing was a reminder that our time on this earth is precious and short. It still pains me to know that he worked so hard in his career, only to just start to enjoy his retirement.
My sister and I were fortunate (if you can even say that) to receive an inheritance after he passed. For me, the money has given me the flexibility to launch my practice my way. My sister decided to buy a house, a place to call her own. I share this because, to me, this highlights how we use money differently. I’m sad our dad won’t get to see us flourish, but I know he would be so proud of our respective choices and the life we are living.
